Optimism should be difficult for the Chicago Bulls fan base at this point of the rebuild, but there’s a handful of positive signs heading into 2020.
The end of the calendar year is just around the corner, and the Chicago Bulls haven’t produced the most inspiring results throughout 2019. Dating back to the turn of the calendar year from 2018-to-2019, the Bulls didn’t do all that much to show that this rebuild is making a whole lot of progress.
If the Bulls are going to get back to winning ways in the Eastern Conference, then this rebuild has to start making marked progress. The best players in this young core have to make strides in the right direction instead of floundering during crunch time. The Bulls are making a habit out of losing close games where they once held a sizable lead in the fourth quarter.
That loss earlier this month to the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road was a microcosm of the regular season so far under Boylen. The Bulls held a 26-point lead at one point in the second half against the Thunder. And they still found a way to lose that game as veteran point guard Chris Paul heated up down the stretch.
However, the Bulls built a two-game winning streak earlier this week with wins over the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons. Both the Pistons and Wizards are in similar positions to that of the Bulls. So nabbing both of those wins on the road before the turn of the calendar year could be key moving forward.
Here’s a look into the three reasons for hope for the Chicago Bulls come the turn of the calendar year to 2020.
