Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus men’s fashion director Bruce Pask says he’s frequently asked to give style advice to men who appreciate his aesthetic. “It’s utilitarian meets elegance,” says Pask. In addition to spreading wardrobe wisdom via Instagram direct messages, Pask is now merchandising his look at B., a 250-square-foot permanent shop that opened in February on the third floor of Goodman’s Men’s Store in New York. “These are examples of things I just found myself buying for me,” Pask says, “brands I really love that we could give power and meaning to by aggregating in the store.”
Since the new space depends entirely on Pask’s personal worldview, he tapped an interior designer with whom he has a deep personal connection: his twin brother, Scott Pask, a three-time Tony Award–winning set designer. Scott says he always looks for a narrative—in this case, he wanted the interiors to convey the story of his brother. Scott has outfitted B. with elements his younger-by-three-minutes sibling prefers: shingled walls, Navajo rugs, Shaker-style display walls and a touch of Juddian modernism throughout.
The Pasks, who grew up in Yuma, Arizona, took further inspiration for B. from the concept of a general store from a bygone era. “Everything you need is here,” says Bruce. “With regularity and clarity,” adds Scott. There are the Comme des Garçons Shirt Forever poplin button-downs Bruce favors and the Le Mont St Michel work jackets he reveres. There will also be ongoing collaborations between Bruce and select brands he admires from around the world: He’ll riff on the classic desert boot with Clarks and conceive a pleated khaki with the German brand Closed. “I’m constantly finding pieces I love,” Bruce says, “and people are always asking, ‘Where can I get that?’ ” B. is the answer. bergdorfgoodman.com.
