For over 200 years, Perrier-Jouët has been producing some of the world's most sought after champagne. The legendary house helped position Épernay, France as the global epicenter of elegant sparkling wine. It's been a champion of art and design for nearly as long. Bottles of the brand's now-iconic Belle Époque cuvée were first unveiled in 1969. The magnum-sized glass featured Japanese anemones, hand-painted by acclaimed artist Emile Gallé. Today, Perrier continues its longstanding commitment to fine art with the announcement of a new series of exclusively designed champagne flutes in collaboration with the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
The first release is timed to celebrate the CFDA's annual Fashion Awards, held every June. The slender glass vessels were conceived by Prabal Gurung and will feature the familiar flower emblem imbued with the designer's penchant for bright and bold patterns. “For our glassware collaboration with Perrier-Jouët, I was inspired by the beauty and elegance of the brand's signature anemone flower," says Gurung. "We wanted to bring our brand ideal – that we are ‘stronger in color’ – to the design, so we juxtaposed our bright hued floral with the heritage of the delicate Perrier-Jouët anemone to celebrate who we both are and what we stand for together.”
The gift set features two custom designed champagne flutes packaged alongside a bottle of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé, retailing at $400. Pour out a glass of this collector's edition you'll find the same fizzy, floral liquid that helped make the champagne a global sensation. Bittersweet citrusy notes of grapefruit and blood orange claim top note on the palate before slowly ceding to honey and brioche in a tongue-tingling finish. Although the nose suggests otherwise, this is a wine imparting a compelling degree of dryness. The sort of drinking experience that can either heighten exuberant celebration, or encourage quiet contemplation. That all depends on where and when you decide to pop the cork.
Whatever you choose, it won't come cheap--the privilege will set you back $400. And you won't be able to snag the set from your local wine shop, either. This one's available for purchase exclusively on Drinks & Co. A portion of proceeds helps support Prabal Gurung's Shikshya Foundation Nepal. Since it's founding in 2011, the charity has provided complete education to over 300 children in Nepal, impacting an estimated 15,000 lives in this challenged part of the world.
