It’s a wrap for men’s fashion month, which confronted us with the latest from some of Europe’s greatest, for the 2019 fall/winter season. As per usual, fashion houses remain pretty consistent when it comes to their menswear offerings. Nonetheless, between Milan and Paris, there were some key updates worth introducing to one’s wardrobe when stepping into fall.
Trapper hats
The winter accessory was all over the place, executed in a furry material. While the trapper hat may not necessarily be a novelty, suggested colorways for fall are. Make room for those in shades of blue, yellow, or pastels. Says who? Says Prada.
Sunnei
While Italy’s go-to brands for anything from tailoring to more casual wear are typically part of the fashion industry's establishment, a future icon in menswear is emerging out of Milan. Sunnei debuted as a somewhat more chic alternative to millennial streetwear, but has been coming of age in more recent seasons. For fall/winter the brand’s knitwear formed the ultimate staple, specifically a brown-white oversized crewneck knitted in a zigzag pattern.
Bondage
Actor Timothée Chalamet went viral earlier this month for walking the Golden Globes red carpet donned in, what some internet users referred to as a “sex harness” by Louis Vuitton. The French luxury brand was quick to send out a press release, specifying it concerned an “embellished bib” instead. Nonetheless, the harness is a thing for fall/winter, as demonstrated by the likes of Balmain and Emporio Armani.
Animalier
While traditionally associated with safari-themed spring/summer collections, animal prints have officially transcended to the fall/winter season. Whether it’s a tiny detail or in-your-face coat, leopards, tigers and snakes, are fashion’s predators of choice for the final quarter of the year. Celine debuted its menswear range featuring animalier on shoes and outerwear, while Marcelo Burlon’s more street-smart County of Milan made it a recurring feature across apparel.
Faux fur outerwear
With an increasing number of fashion houses swearing off the use of animal furs, comes the rise of the next best thing. Giorgio Armani nailed it by way of the brand’s Emporio Armani offerings, which long hair, yeti-like, faux furs shall turn heads from ski resorts to the big cities, come fall.
