Emerging Surrealists: Dalí Benefit Fashion Show
Not only does the Dalí Museum present wonderful, informative exhibitions about surrealism and concepts of art, it also encourages young artists. In September, it offered a free Fashion Design at the Dalí program in which 29 students from 18 high schools were taught all about surrealism and the connection between fashion and art. They spent 12 weeks creating wearable works of art based on Dalí’s outlandish dinner parties, using upcycled materials. The program concluded with a runway show and awards ceremony, held in December.
Those works will return to the runway Thursday at Neiman Marcus at International Plaza for the Dalí’s Benefit Fashion Show. They’ll show alongside the latest fashions available at the department store. Fashion through the Ages: Cocktails and Couture
Tampa’s annual Cocktails and Couture is a showcase of creativity, and it returns to the Ritz Ybor on Saturday. The theme is Tour de Time, a celebration of eras of fashion and parties from the disco days through the avant-garde culture of Burning Man. Designers include the Disco Dolls, Elizabeth Carson Racker and Eric Ondina, with all hair, makeup and styling by Tribeca ColorSalon. While the runway show will be an explosion of color and fun on its own, there will be additional entertainment by singers Anye Cole and Jeremy Gloff and dance troupe VYB Dance. And there will be a highly Instagramable photo op art installation backdrop by the incomparable Cam Parker. Wearable Art: The History of Fashion
Dunedin is abuzz this weekend with its inaugural Dunedin International Film Festival, happening at locations around the city Friday-Sunday. There’s a Wearable Art short film category, and in celebration of that is a live runway show on Saturday poolside at the new Fenway Hotel. The film festival asked the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Wearable Art designer Lina Teixeira to show her collection, “History of Fashion.” The soiree happens from 5:30-8:30 p.m., with the runway show at 8:30.
