Materials that would otherwise be headed to the landfill were transformed into fashionable designs Friday at the second annual “3R Fashions: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” fundraising show held at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. Above left, model Elizabeth Hoekstra shows off a dress designed by Lisa Hoekstra. Materials used included the blue plastic bags used to deliver The Courier. Above right, Isabella Viera models a dress designed by Naomi Wood. Materials included fabric scraps, lottery tickets, beads, pom-poms, Modpodge, duct tape, fabric, paper, and broken jewelry. Below left, designer Chris Allen models a dress made with cat food and chicken feed bags, water/soda bottles, and bottle caps. Below right, designer Kiara Williamson models a dress that featured bubble wrap, packing material, contact paper, dead flowers, and scrap sequin material. All proceeds from the show benefit the Hancock Parks Foundation. (Photos by Kevin Bean / The Courier) Comments
